Getting my hopes up....

Not to jinx anything, but Nathan hasn't pooped in bed in over 2 weeks.    Could bowel control be starting to come back?  He's definitely doing better with pee pees, particularly on long walks where he'll pee on everything he smells.   We have what I think will be our last acupuncture session next week.    I'm considering doing another round of the K-laser at my vet.   When the boys had their annually teeth cleaning about 4 weeks ago, our Vet gave Nathan a pro-bono K-laser treatment (well, pro-bono + $1,200 in other vet expenses).   Nathan had a series of 5 treatments back when he first had the surgery, but he was too ill to tell if it had any effect.   However, I'm a bit suspicious of Nathan's seemingly unusual spike in improvement about 3 weeks ago.   It could just be a coincidence, but what if its not???    I just read this article about integrating acupuncture and laser therapy for IVDD treatment.  I found it very interesting.....

  1. Nathan what a good boy you are, no more poop in your bed! Now you need to teach Cher how to start peeing!
You will have to let me know if the k-laser seems to help. Acupuncture seemed to really help Cher month 2 thru 4 post surgery. I have now stopped acupuncture because it does not seem to help any more. Thanks for the tip with the tape for her toes this seems to help.

    1. I'll definitely let you know how the k-laser goes. Probably will try it in about 2 wks. I want to wait until after the last acupuncture treatment. I hate torturing Nathan with too many vet visits so close together!

  2. Nathan has come so far since I started reading his journey. I so love coming and reading about his improvements and feel so bad for him if he has a set back. The setbacks are few and far between now and I am so happy for him.

  3. I have just read your blog from start to finish. My Dachshund lost use of his back legs last night and had surgery this evening to decompress his spine. Your journey with Nathan has given me a lot of hope that my little guy will bounce back from this. Thank you for sharing Nathan's trials and tribulations!

    1. So sorry to hear about your baby! Today will be a tough day, but it will get better. I never thought Nathan could recover to the point that he has, but these are some strong-willed dogs. My thoughts are with you as you go thru the next few weeks.....

  4. Caroline, Heidi's blog also gave me alot of hope. My Cher had surgery over five months ago, and it took her 4 of those months to start walking again. Hang in there, it does get easier.

  5. Please let us know how your baby did with surgery, Caroline.

Now that we have a 6-wk break with Nathan's acupuncture, I've got Nathan scheduled for a series of 3 K-laser treatments next week...fingers crossed for some noticeable results...stayed tuned.
